Strengthening the links between European marine fisheries science and fisheries management

Work package 6: Analysis of special research topics and regional sea areas that warrant special programme co-ordination

Objectives

Identify specific research topics where the coordination of programme management at the European level will bring added benefits and enhance the European Research Area.

Description of work

Based on the output from other work packages, especially WP3 and WP5 this short running work package will consider the emerging problems facing fisheries management and identify those research topics which will particularly benefit from the coordination of programme management at the European level, through MariFish.  WP6 will feed directly into WP7 where a number of shared pilot research programmes will be prepared and commissioned.

Task 6.1

Identify emerging problems facing fisheries management at the regional and European scale, which would benefit from improved ‘evidence’ from research.

Task 6.2

Consolidate and distil all the information gathered from earlier work packages relevant to the task of selecting specific research topics which would benefit from coordination at the European and regional scale.

Task 6.3

Recommend those research areas where collaborative pilot projects, to be undertaken under WP7, would bring added benefit in delivering evidence for European fisheries management.

Partner Involvement

WP6 is lead by Partner 6, with Partner 16 as the WP Co-Leader.  Partner 16 will assist in the analysis of programme coordination priorities, focussing particularly on the Mediterranean area.  All Partners will be involved in the two workshops associated with the WP, and consider the recommendations through the SC.
