The Policy Department for Fisheries, within the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands (LNV), is the responsible body for fisheries policy and for negotiations under the CFP. The aims of the department are to promote and to support:
- Sustainable fisheries that are in balance with the bearing power and quality of the ecosystem;
- The availability of fish and fish products of good quality;
- The focus on other relevant issues such as, environment, animal welfare, and fair trade;
- An economically viable fishing industry, and
- A proper fulfilment of the legal fisheries rules.
